This class was different from any other writing class I have taken. I took 1010 last semester and I didn't finish the Writing 2010 that I took at the University of Utah, which I dropped halfway through the semester due to some personal things. I was expecting this class to be just like that one, strictly research papers and proper essays. It wasn't, this writing class was beyond that and took writing to a more modern day topic. Our first major paper was a research paper, but our second and fourth major assignments were an infographic and a picture essay, both of which I had no experience with and had fun making. We also created memes in this writing class, it was nice having a more modernized writing class and would suggest it to anyone else who is interested in the same.
The first assignment we were given in writing 2010, we were asked to pick a local non-profit and research it along with the groups that were involved with it. I chose a non-profit called National Ability Center because I have two siblings with down syndrome, and it is great to be able to research a topic that I am intrigued with. I actually had never heard of this non-profit before I started doing research on it, and I am so happy I stumbled upon it. I actually talked with the volunteering supervisor and will be helping out up there in the Summer of 2016. This was a great assignment and helped become more active in my community.
The second assignment for this writing class, we were required to make an infographic. The information in the infographic was the information we gained from our first research essay. I enjoyed creating this infographic, although, as you can see, for some reason mine doubled, and I could not figure out how to get rid of the second one without deleting the entire thing, and I didn't want to delete my work after it took me a few hours to adjust to the format of the website I used.
This was the third assignment that we were asked to create. It is a position synthesis taking a side of something we strongly believe in. I chose to do my paper on a hot-topic throughout the nation, medical marijuana. I enjoyed writing this paper because I was able to learn things that I didn't know about the topic snd also reassured myself of things that I knew, but wasn't quite sure about. I put the most time into this assignment out of all of the other assignments, and I think it really shows in this piece.
This was the last assignment we did in Writing 2010. I mentioned it in my intro paragraph and we were supposed to take the information from our position synthesis paper and take pictures that you took (all of mine were from the internet due to the subject), and I showed the different strains of marijuana, the type of strain that they are, and their medical benefits. It is crazy to me how something that helps with so many diseases is illegal, especially since it is a plant.
