Biology 1090: Taking Sides
English 1010 was a very intriguing writing course to take. For this class we learned how to use logical reasoning and rhetoric in our writing. Towards the end of the semester we were required to write an Annotated Bibliography and a Position Synthesis on any topic of our choice, preferably something we were passionate about. For the Annotated Bibliography we were required to find 7 reliable sources that would support our position and argument about our subject. My subject was legalization of medical marijuana, which I was arguing pro for. Not only did we need to find sources that supported our argument, we also needed to find arguments that opposed the idea in order to make our position stronger and show that we acknowledge the opposing argument. For the Position Synthesis we took a lot of the information that we gained in researching the topic and put it all into a paper to show what side of the argument that we supported. All in all the research really opened up my mind and I was glad that I chose a subject that has a lot of diverse opinions.
